Q&A with Christie Valdiserri

Hey hey, my name is Christie Valdiserri. I am a professional dancer, model, and fitness instructor from Philly, Pennsylvania, but I live in Los Angeles! I am currently healing myself from alopecia while spreading love and courage to other women to embrace exactly who they are, with or without hair, as well as offering guidance in their healing journey with alopecia.

Tell us what alopecia is and what your journey has been with having this condition?
Alopecia is an autoimmune disease, but I don't even like to call it that, because I am curing myself from it! My journey has been quite the journey... to put it short and sweet, it has really forced me to dig deep into my soul to find the true me.
What advice can you give to someone who is also impacted by this condition?
My advice would be to never ever give up, whether that means never give up trying to grow hair back or never give up on what you want out of life, even after losing all of your hair. I firmly believe when there's a will, there's a way and if you want to grow your hair back, you can. If you want a specific job, or lifestyle, you can have that, if you put the work in. Secondly, love yourself. We must find honest and true self love so we can fully understand that we are no different without hair.
What's your self-care regimen (Mentally, Physically, & Spiritually)?
For my self care regimen I try to meditate first thing every morning for 5 minutes. I then drink organic celery juice, every single morning. I also am now vegan and gluten free, in hopes of growing my hair back, oh and it's coming!! I workout about five times a week, granted I am a dancer and a fitness instructor but exercise definitely fills my soul!
What role has dance played in your life?
I don't even know if I will ever be able to fully explain the role that dance has played in my life. It has been there for me through this journey when I've felt so lost and alone. It is such an escape and an outlet that I go to when I need to clear my head. Dance is such a constant in my life and I just feel like it will always, always have my back!
